Melbourne’s own MADI LEEDS states intentions to make waves within the Australian music scene with new Single Identity. A seasoned performer, MADI already has a wealth of experience both gigging around Melbourne and writing in a wide array of genres. Now working within the realm of Synth Pop, Madi’s musical output takes on inspiration from acts such as HAIM, St. Vincent, Eliza & The Delusionals. Produced by Gab Strum (Japanese Wallpaper) Identity will be released via Push Records and poised to be a breakout hit for the up and coming artist.
MADI says “Identity’ was written about a time where I accidentally ended up with pink hair and was confronted with some decisions to make in my life. After going through most of 2020 in Melbourne in lockdown, you realise what’s truly important to you.
It’s something I need to work on, but I hate disappointing people or being stuck in a situation where I can’t please everyone at once/I’m conflicted. Identity relates back to this - I had to really think about the best option for myself, without any influence. Trusting that everything eventually will be okay. “
The personality that shines throughout Madi’s music is extremely evident with this track as it delivers her typical anecdotal storytelling that is extremely relatable. Paired with warm layered Synthesisers and instrumentals that follow indie rock principals, Identity offers up a lot of distinguishable traits found in current trending contemporary genres.
lyrics
Verse:
This wasn’t my intention
This wasn’t what I wanted
Do you even know me?
It seems like you’ve forgotten
Why’d you take the time to mention (my hair)
It made me feel so cornered
No other way around it
Maybe it’s time, you said…
Pre-Chorus
I guess this is where, it all comes crashing down
A mess, I know, okay, I’m crumbling now
Tell me it’ll pass and I’ll be okay
How do I get in these situations anyway?
What feels real, only this I know
I need control and the truth to show
Chorus
All that I need
You complete me
Finally feel free
In my identity, identity
Verse 2
Can’t wait any longer
Can’t live with the unknown
I’m obviously not stronger…
…than what I’ve previously shown
(it’s not) It’s not an identity crisis
I guess I needed a change
But when it comes down to this
Who am I to blame?
Pre-Chorus
I guess this is where, it all comes crashing down…
… Tell me it’ll pass and I’ll be okay (I’m okay)
How do I get in these situations anyway? (Anyway, anyway)
What feels real, only this I know
I need control and the truth to show
Chorus X2
All that I need (Do you feel better, can you feel the come up)
You complete me (I’m feeling better, guess my mind had enough)
Finally feel free
In my identity, identity
